National University of Malaysia delegation visits Iowa StateA delegation of three Sports Officers and two students from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) were hosted by the Department of Kinesiology from July 14 through July 22. The purpose of the visit was to learn about various issues related to campus recreation programs from sport clubs to intramurals to outdoor recreation. During their visit they also spent a day at the University of Northern Iowa and an afternoon at Drake University. The delegation toured facilties and heard presentations from the Recreation Services staff at ISU, UNI, and Drake as well as presentations and tours of sport facilities lead by representatives of the athletic departments at ISU and UNI. In addition to the informational part of their visit, the group also toured the Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge at Prairie City, attended an Iowa Cubs game, visited the Iowa Hall of Pride, and observed various events at the Iowa Games. This visit is another in the series of exchanges between Malaysian sport organizations and universities and Iowa State University. Each year the Department of Kinesiology selects two students to attend the Malaysian National Olympic Academy in Kuala Lumpur and hosts representatives from the Olympic Academy at ISU every other year. In addition the Department of Kinesiology has organized two study abroad experiences to Malaysia, in 2005 and 2007.
