Athletic Training Educational Program

The Athletic Training Program at Iowa State University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

The educational program at Iowa State University is housed in the College of Education and the Department of Kinesiology.  The program currently consists of approximately 124 credits and 6 clinical rotations.

Clinical rotations are done in the following areas:

  • Iowa State University Athletic Training Rooms (3)
  • Local High Schools
  • Physical Therapy Clinics
  • Physician Clinic

These clinical rotations are performed under the supervision of certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, and physicians. They have been developed for the student to gain hands-on experience and to introduce them to the various settings in the health care field.

Admission Requirements

  • Complete and Submit Pre-Athletic Training Application
  • Minimum of 2.50 GPA
  • Interview with Selection Committee
  • Complete EX SP 221 with a B or better and complete EX SP 222 satisfactorily

Retention Policy

  • Maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 and 2.75 in core Exercise and Sport Science course work
  • Progress through clinical
  • Receive positive and progressive evaluations from clinical supervisors
