Undergraduate Study in Kinesiology


The Physical Education Licensure option prepares a student to teach physical education in the public or private school settings in elementary, middle school, or senior high school programs. Students who are also interested in preparation for coaching or for teaching additional subject areas can do so by completing appropriate coursework. Coursework includes:

  • motor learning and control
  • biomechanical aspects of human movement
  • physiology of exercise
  • sport history
  • methods of teaching physical education and dance
  • adapted physical education
  • physical education curriculum design and program organization
  • educational psychology
  • muticultural awareness and non-sexism in the classroom
  • professional activity/skills classes including aquatics, tumbling and gymnastics, team sports, individual sports, dance, and more...

Field experience:

Student teaching is required for all students who wish to prepare as teachers. This field experience, in which the student teaches in real classrooms under the guidance of a licensed teacher, ranges from 12 to 16 weeks in length with opportunites in both smaller and larger school systems, rural, urban, and overseas settings.
